Paper in Nature

Together with Yuyang Wang at the ICMS microscopy facility we have developed a microscopy approach to visualize and track local organization in dynamic polymeric materials. The approach uses a polarization-sensitive fluorescence microscope that allows for the real-time visualization of local molecular alignment with diffraction-limited resolution. In a project lead by Bert Meijer and Hailin Fu […]

Join us! Three open positions

We currently have three fully financed openings for two postdocs and one PhD student. You can find the descriptions of the positions here: PhD position on nanoplasmonics for ultrafast single-molecule biosensing Postdoc position on machine learning for integrated nanophotonic biosensing (together with Yuqing Jiao) Postdoc position on super-resolution imaging of interactive polymer materials (together with […]

Symposium registration open!

Exciting news! On October 11th we organize a symposium at TU/e with 6 invited speakers that will give their perspective on the use of microscopy and nanoscopy to study nanomaterials. The symposium is titled “with light into the nanoworld” and is open to everyone, you can register already!

Super-resolution imaging for biosensing

A great article has been posted on the TU/e science webpage about the use of super-resolution microscopy to quantify nanoparticles. This article describes our research in the Marie Curie ITN project SuperCol, where 15 PhD students across Europe work to develop and image particle-based biosensors and drug delivery vehicles. As cherry on the pie it […]

EHCI grant awarded

In collaboration with Yuqin Jiao from the Photonic Integration group we were awarded an institutional grant from the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute. The aim of the collaboration will be to develop photonic-plasmonic integrated biosensors. A postdoc position will be opened soon!

Several publications accepted!

What a New Year present! Three papers were accepted for publication within two weeks, and two more submitted. Two manuscripts deal with the use of super-resolution localization microscopy to characterize nanoscale materials, whereas three manuscripts describe novel plasmonic sensors for DNA, protein, and enzymes. Thanks to all authors and collaborators for a great effort, you […]

Dutch Design Week

The ITN SuperCol (a European consortium coordinated by Peter Zijlstra) contributes to an exhibition themed ‘Sensing the Invisible’ in a joint exhibit with students and researchers of the ITN Consense, the international student competition SensUs, and the research group Molecular Plasmonics of SuperCol coordinator Dr Peter Zijlstra. The exhibit shows the future of biosensors and […]

Special issue in J. Chem. Phys.

Peter served as an editor of a special issue in JCP called “The Ever-Expanding Optics of Single-Molecules and Nanoparticles”. The issue highlights recent advances in single-molecule optics that stemmed from the pioneering work of, amongst others, Prof. Michel Orrit (who will formally retire in 2022). Other guest editors are Haw Yang, Frank Cichos, and Ted […]

NWO OTP grant awarded!

Received a grant to develop the next generation of water sensors together with industry The increasing population results in increasing contamination of the environment, notably water. This not only affects animal life, but may also threaten the supply of clean drinking water in the future. Monitoring of water quality at water treatment facilities and in […]
